    Description & OrderingPicture of Product
BACK TO THE PHAROHS: Senet - Senet is a racing board game from ancient Egypt. This game board is based on boards similar to ones found in the tombs of Egyptian kings. The movement of the pieces represent the wanderings of the souls in the Egyptian underworld. Hieroglypics describe the wandering found in the game and replicate those found on a 3000 year old papyrus. Some researchers claim Senet to be a predecessor to Backgammon. 2 players.

BACK TO THE PHAROHS: Nine Men's Morris - Popular in Renaissance Europe, Morris boards have been found cut into Egyptian temple stone from 1400 BC. Boards were also found in Sri Lanka from 10 AD and in a Viking Ship from 900 AD. The game was very popular in 14th Century Europe and the Renaissance, entering through Spain with the Moorish invasions.

In Morris games, players try to arrange their tokens three in a row on the board, at which time an opponent's piece is removed. A player wins by reducing the opponent to just two pieces. Early games of Morris were played with only 9 pieces each. Tic Tac Toe would be a simplified Morris variant. 2 players.

BACK TO THE PHAROHS: Alquerque - A forerunner to checkers, Alquerque pieces move diagonal as well as horizontal and vertical. Alquerque has been found on rooftops dating back to Ancient Egypt. It arrived in Europe with the invasions of the Moors into Spain. Then as the Spaniards settled the New World, they introduced Alquerque to the Zuni Indians (in current New Mexico) who then modified it into a quadruple game. 2 players. Ours is a silk-screened cloth and glass drops.

BACK TO THE PHAROHS: Basic Mancala - Mancala boards have been found in the tombs of Egypt. Today, there are over 150 ways to play mancala around the world. Some have very different types of boards, such as no banks on the ends or 4-lanes instead of 2 lanes. Alternate rules of play may be encountered by playing the game with others, reading books, or scanning web sites. On the basic board sold here, we have seen at least a dozen ways to play just here in Central Texas! 17.5 inch board with 2 rows of pits (6 in each row), storage bin on each end, 48 assorted glass droplets
