    FLAT PUZZLES

    Description & OrderingPicture of Product
Fifteen Puzzle - A reproduction of an old puzzle first introduced in 1933. You move stainless steel tiles with decorative enamel facings around a square. The 15 tiles have the numbers 1-15 on them. The puzzle already comes in numerical order from top to bottom. Try reversing the order so 1-15 goes from bottom to top. Then maybe around the outside with 15 in the center. Maybe try to get all the evens in the two top rows and the odds in the bottom two rows. The combinations are numerous! The box includes a leaflet with over 30 challenges to try and a little traveling case.

Blue Tangoe Pieces - Sometimes called silhouette puzzles, the goal is to take 7 varied shapes and make an image, such as a fisherman, dog, bunny, tea pot, etc. Tangrams/Tangoes are puzzles from old China. This modern version uses 7 pieces of plastic to create the items indicated on image cards. Available only in BLUE. This package has 7 images:

Tangoes Jr for Seniors! - Instead of small outlines telling how to make an image, these 10 large cards have large broken up illustrations on their backs where the pieces go in order to make the image on the front. In this way, the puzzler can match the 7 plastic pieces to the image more easily. I provide these more for seniors with illnesses rather than for youngsters. Useable with the blue tangoes above.

Math Squares - Arrange 9 numbered squares so the sum of the numbers horizontally, vertically, and diagonally are the same. Then arrange 16 numbers in a 4x4 square. Lastly, arrange 25 numbers in a 5x5 square. A version of the 4x4 magic square is in an engraving by Albrecht Dürer entitled Melancholia. Dürer 's magic square is based on 34 and has the additional property that the sums in any of the four quadrants, as well as the sum of the middle four numbers, are all 34. An added bonus is that the numbers 15 and 14 appear in the middle of the bottom row, indicating the date of the engraving, 1514.

Izzi - Challenging and beautiful, puzzlers try to match the sturdy die-cut, black and white cardboard 2 inch square tiles side-to-side to build a square. Just match black to black and white to white. There are 64 square tiles and an endless number of solutions. Solitaire or with friends, Izzi comes with suggestions for different challenges. An added note, the 64 different tiles are almost a complete set of all the combinations of a square cut into 8 black and white triangles. The full set would be 70 tiles, so the 6 most regular tiles are omitted to get down to 64.

Jump & Remove Solitaire - The object is to end with one marble on the game board, preferably in the center. The only move allowed is jumping over an adjacent marble. The jumped marble is removed. A marble left alone may get stuck on the board. Two marbles left is superb, 3 marbles remaining is good, 4 or more marbles remaining-start over. You may have seen a solitaire puzzle made with golf tees instead of marbles.
Legend claims that Solitaire was invented to entertain Louis XIV, "The Sun King" who ruled from 1643 to 1715. A French engraving dating from 1697 shows Princess de Soubise playing the game of solitaire. This puzzle has challenged and mathematicians, royalty, and commoners for centuries.
